Family Legacy

Kichaa hails from a distinguished lineage of Paubha artists whose contributions have significantly shaped the trajectory of traditional Newa art. His family’s artistic heritage spans generations, beginning with his great-grandfather, Bakhat Man Chitrakar, and continuing through his great-uncle, Manik Man Chitrakar, grandfather, Prithivi Man Chitrakar, and father, Prem Man Chitrakar. These ancestors are celebrated for their devotional mastery, with their works still venerated as sacred objects in temples and monasteries across Nepal, as well as displayed in museums both nationally and internationally.
His father, Prem Man Chitrakar, was a pivotal figure in the modern Newa art renaissance. A master painter and visionary, Prem Man was known for his innovative fusion of traditional Paubha techniques with modern aesthetics. He helped usher the sacred art form into contemporary relevance, gaining global recognition for his work. Today, Prem Man’s paintings reside in the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum(Japan), the Himalayan Art Gallery (Beijing, China), and Boddhisattva Art Gallery (Nepal), among others.
The Chitrakar family has long been regarded as a guardian of Paubha art— preserving its rigorous disciplines, symbolism, and spiritual essence, while allowing it to evolve with changing times. Kichaa continues this legacy with dedication and distinction, representing a new chapter in a centuries-old tradition that bridges ritual, history, and innovation.
